Bill Freese, of the Huron Environmental Activist League, CACC's chapter organization is a contact on this press release.

Note this paragraph: “We have as much sympathy for PCA’s concern for the dirtiest cement plants as they have had for us,” said Bill Freese, director of the Huron Environmental Activist League. “The Lafarge plant in Alpena, Michigan is rated by the EPA’s Toxic Release Inventory as one of the dirtiest cement plant in North America. In 1988 they became one of the largest hazardous waste burning facilities in North America. They burned hazardous waste until late 2001, but the emissions continued. We have waited for years for rules to clean up our air and environment. They are long past due.”

The Great Lakes Health Banner Project Gains New Life

Great Lakes Health Banner Project Mission Statement

The Great Lakes Health Banner Project seeks to promote and protect the health of people of Michigan by demanding and implementing institutional change, reform and accountability of the Michigan Department of Public Health, the Legislature and the Governor. These agencies and individuals have constitutionally and legislatively imposed duty to protect the health of Michigan citizens under the Michigan Constitution and the Michigan Public Health Code. We will do this by inviting citizens throughout the Bioregion to join together for the mutual goals of:

  1. Preventing environmental disease and death
  2. Empowering communities to have an impact on decisions that effect environmental health by providing tools to achieve institutional change
  3. Increasing public awareness of illness and death associated with environmental health hazards

This important project has it's own page. You can get information, and watch the project grow there.

Contributions toward the Great Lakes Health Banner project appreciated and are tax deductible under IRS rules. A contribution of $12 or more will underwrite a square for the Banner.

you may contribute by sending a donation in the form of a check payable to:
Citizens for Alternatives to Chemical Contamination
8735 Maple Grove Road

The Family Corner Returns! You may check it out here.
CACC is proud to reinstate Family Corner! You can email or mail artwork or photos of artwork with the child’s name, age, and hometown.
Before we can use artwork, CACC needs a consent form from a parent or guardian, dated and signed, with permission for CACC to use the child’s artwork. It can be a handwritten copy of our form, or you can print out the form and mail it in to the address listed on it.
Photos of the artist may be included. The CACC Education Committee will choose an entry for publication in each newsletter. The artwork may also be published on our website.
If you wish mailed photos/artwork to be returned, please include a separate self-addressed stamped envelope large enough to hold the artwork. We urge folks to send copies electronically if possible, scanned into email, or to send copies of the originals to CACC.

When Carey Pauquette-Schalm, former CACC Administrator, originated Family Corner in December, 2006. She wrote:

"Many of us are involved in organizations such as Citizens for Alternatives to Chemical Contamination because we feel strongly about keeping our children free of unnecessary chemicals. In the back of our minds, it is in hopes of avoiding serious illness such as cancer, muscle disease, autism, and other chemically linked diseases."

I would like to challenge all of us to raise our children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews to become stewards of our environment. Get them involved in our newsletter by submitting an electronic picture drawn by them. It can be a good digital photo of their art, a drawing done on the computer, or a scanned copy. We will pick an art project each newsletter to include for all to see.

This will assist us in giving our children pride in the Earth and everything she provides. To quote my favorite saying: We do not own the earth; we borrow it from our children. Let’s work together to provide a great inheritance and give them the respect and responsibility that comes with it.”
