On September 14, 2018, CACC joined with other national environmental organizations, represented by Attorney Terry Lodge, to legally intervene against the Holtec International/Eddy-Lea [Counties] Energy Alliance application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for a construction and operation license for a so-called centralized interim storage facility for irradiated nuclear fuel in southeastern New Mexico. This proposed dump would have enormous health and safety ramifications for a great number of communities and watersheds along transport routes, (including many Great Lakes communities) as well as those communities near the proposed construction site.
